Camtasia 2019 has new Canvas Dimensions. In the past, you could only select up to 1920x1080 for your canvas, it didn’t have any social media resolutions, and it only had a few iPhone and iPad screen resolutions.
To set your canvas dimensions, click the Canvas Options dropdown and choose Project Settings. Click the Canvas Dimensions dropdown and choose from one of the common video dimensions.
In the 2019 version, you can choose 4K UHD (3840x2160) to work on a 4k video project. You still have the common 1080p and 720p options.
Additionally, you have a square video size for Instagram video and a size for Facebook cover videos.
There are several iPhone XS options and a few iPad options.
Fit To Visible lets you set the dimensions of your project to the dimensions of the largest object on your canvas. This makes your project fit perfectly with a recording ratio like 3:2 instead of 16:9.
Custom Dimensions let you type any dimensions you want to use. You can enter width and height values from 52 to 4096.
If the lock icon is green, this means that Camtasia will attempt to maintain the current aspect ratio while you change the width or the height. When you change one value, the other value will change.
If you don’t want to maintain an aspect ratio, click the green lock icon. It changes to gray and lets you type a number in either field without changing the other field.
Once you’ve made the changes you want, click the Apply button and your canvas changes will take effect.
